  • The man from Germany. 

    Joseph Pilates was born in Mönchengladbach, Germany and lived from December 9, 1883, to October 9, 1967. The system of exercises and three dimensional ways of moving were originally named Contrology.  Over the course of his life, he developed and taught his students ways to develop the body and mind as a whole with the mat work and the myriad of apparatus he invented and patented.  This holistic way of teaching builds a stronger body with more efficient movement patterns making it accessible to anyone willing to learn it. This is how we strive to teach the work. 

    Pilates is a learning process involving concentration, balance, control, precision, memory, coordination as well as strength and mobility.  Think of our studio as your classroom for learning these things…and the learning is a lifetime commitment.


    Our Pilates teachers either have completed or are actively engaged in a rigorous, 600-hour classical and comprehensive program and bring their own personal experience as movers with their own Pilates practice and activities outside of the studio.


    Reformers are just one aspect of the full Pilates system; we utilize the diverse range of apparatus created by Mr. Pilates, making this practice accessible to everyone, regardless of age, fitness level and skill set.


    Our teaching team is obsessed with learning and are committed to a deep and ever-growing understanding of the human body. We are dedicated to providing the highest quality Pilates instruction to the East Texas community.  Your longevity and quality of life is our passion and inside our walls, we give you tools to handle the demands of life outside of the studio.

  • For your success and the success of others in a group Pilates Equipment Class, it’s best that you not have any major pre-existing conditions or injuries that would make following the flow of a class a frustrating experience.

    Most pieces of Pilates equipment generally involves numerous moving components such as springs, straps, gear bars, handles, bars, headrests, and boxes, along with other smaller details. Having a basic understanding of these parts is beneficial.

    We want everyone in our 4 person classes to feel safe, start the process of learning equipment set up, and make any progressions or modifications for their body before they jump in.  Each group class will be taught on different apparatus with a different focus or theme depending on who is participating that day. It’s like a playground!

    Our Pilates Equipment classes are leveled….beginner, intermediate, and advanced.  Our Pilates Mat, TRX, and barre classes are mixed level.

  • Heads up! To sign up for all group classes, head over to the “register” tab on this website, and/or download the free Studio B Pilates+Barre app for super quick booking and payment.

    Since we keep classes small, it’s important to pre-register 12 hours ahead to make sure you get that personalized attention we are famous for!  If a class is packed, put your name on the waitlist.

    Just a friendly reminder: we’ve got a 24-hour cancellation policy for all classes and private or semi-private sessions. If you can't make it, please let us know 24 hours before, or we'll need to charge the full fee.

    Also, sometimes a teacher might need to switch up the schedule. No worries, though! We'll update the app ASAP with any changes.

    GROUP PILATES EQUIPMENT CLASSES:

    Consider taking a Pilates Group Equipment class if you have some experience on the apparatus. We offer beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Unsure which is right for you? Check the descriptions on our app's community tab or in the box below.  Don’t hesitate to reach out!

    MOVEMENT STUDIO CLASSES:

    Our Movement Studio offers mixed-level classes, including TRX, barre, and Pilates mat, welcoming everyone. We teach 6 folks in these classes. Before starting your time with us, please complete the intake form on our website and sign the waiver in the Studio B Pilates + Barre app.

  • LEVEL 1: BEGINNER

    Ideal for the new Pilates student with no major movement restrictions.  It is also a good spot for the student with some Pilates experience who is still learning about the springs, settings, and exercise names.  You will receive appropriate cuing for alignment, exercise set up and movement fundamentals.  

    Deliberate pace. Open to all levels.

    • Focus: Introduction to the Pilates method, emphasizing proper form, core engagement, and breath work.

    • Exercises: Basic exercises, focusing on foundational movements and building a strong base.

    • Modifications: Teachers will offer modifications for each exercise to accommodate different fitness levels and needs.

    • Goal: To build a foundation of strength, flexibility, and stability.


    LEVEL 2: INTERMEDIATE

    This class is for you if you are able to work with an understanding of how to make the exercises work for your current level. Moderate fitness level and substantial Pilates experience within the classical Pilates system is required, specifically working on the apparatus in a class setting or in private sessions.  Able to change most spring and apparatus settings with little or no assistance. Able to self modify and properly position with necessary props for any pre-existing medical conditions. Has a solid grasp of alignment, movement fundamentals with good body awareness with more complex sequencing and exercises.  

    Faster/Flow paced.

    • Focus: Building upon the foundation, with increased intensity and complexity of movement patterns.

    • Exercises: More challenging exercises, incorporating variations and sequences. 

    • Modifications: Instructors will be spotting for safety but students are more independent in their experience.

    • Goal: To improve strength, flexibility, and core control, while increasing the overall fitness level. 

    LEVEL 3: ADVANCED

    Should have a high level of fitness, practicing Pilates consistently at least 2x/week for 6+ months privately or in classes, and/or is currently in a Pilates Teacher Training program or is a Pilates teacher. Able to change all spring/apparatus without assistance. They must have excellent body awareness and a solid understanding of any limitations within their bodies.

    • Focus: Advanced variations, a flow through transitions, and a deeper understanding of the Pilates method. 

    • Exercises: Along with the foundational exercises involved in every Pilates class, more body awareness and skill is required as we learn the more advanced repertoire.

    • Modifications: Students need to make decisions more independently at this level and know how to modify or progress the exercises without personal instruction from the teacher.

    • Goal: To further enhance strength, flexibility, and core control, while challenging a more advanced thinking mind set.

    1. We kindly ask that you turn off your cell phone when you enter the studio.  If you are expecting an important call, please keep your phone on vibrate and take your call privately, away from other students.

    2. Place your personal belongings and shoes in the cubbies. We can't keep an eye on everything, so please leave anything valuable at home.

    3. Comfy clothes that let you move freely are the way to go. Not too baggy, though.

    4. Gym shorts folks, please include some bike shorts underneath.

    5. Long hair? Tie it back.

    6. Skip the big jewelry, watches, and belts.

    7. Bare feet are encouraged! Our teachers really like seeing your whole foot including your toes, because even those tell a story about how you move!  Sometimes socks just get in the way of safety, but if you must cover up, use grippy socks.

    8. Tennis shoes are a must for TRX and general workouts.


    A few notes about security: please don’t leave valuables in your car, keep your vehicles locked, and the studio has three security cameras that are always active inside the studio.
